His narration totally immersed me in the story and managed to put me right among the characters in the quaint village of Three Pines. The only positive was that I got the clue that revealed the identity of the psychopath that Gamache missed. An antique letter from a stone mason has mysteriously surfaced after 150 years, referring to an attic room that he walled up. Spending time with Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and friends is a relaxing experience, despite all the dreadful crimes he has investigated.
