About this deal

And it will be the sifting through this room and its contents that will reveal another corridor to life in Three Pines.

This is the 18th title in the series featuring Armand Gamache, head of the Sûreté du Québec, and his friends and neighbours in the small village of Three Pines.I don't know if her pacing was off, or if she's getting tired of working with these characters, or if she thinks every subsequent book has to be more shocking than the last (in terms of "the crime(s)"), or if it's me.

His narration totally immersed me in the story and managed to put me right among the characters in the quaint village of Three Pines. Later, he and his wife attend a memorial and graduation ceremony at the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal and see Fiona graduate as an engineer. The Sam and Fiona conflict also gets wrapped into this convoluted murder plan that veers into unrealistic and overwrought. Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Gamache series of novels (also known as the Three Pines series) began with Still Life in 2005.

The only positive was that I got the clue that revealed the identity of the psychopath that Gamache missed. An antique letter from a stone mason has mysteriously surfaced after 150 years, referring to an attic room that he walled up. Spending time with Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and friends is a relaxing experience, despite all the dreadful crimes he has investigated. A World of Curiosities is Louise Penny's 18th novel in a series featuring the fictional character Chief Inspector Armand Gamache.

The attention of everyone in Three Pines is soon drawn, though, to a perplexing letter forwarded to Myrna’s partner, BilCoincidentally (or not) Billy has recently received an odd letter dated 1862, written by his great-great-grandfather, a stonemason. Inside, the villagers discover a long lost copy of a “grimoire” an old book thought to have been used by witches to summon demons. I struggled with this before realizing that a book this special deserves an exception to my personal rules. Many of her novels, including the newest, “A World of Curiosities,” are powered by disturbing violence and thrilling pursuit.
